SAY WHAT GRAND SLAM WAS HELD ON DECEMBER 8TH. 

December 8th, 2024. Say What!? Greenville Grand Slam to determine the 2025 Say What Greenville Slam Team sponsored by WITS END POETRY. All poets have pre-qualified by participating in previous poetry slams to earn points. Host Kimberly J Simms.

A poetry slam is a performance poetry competition judged by five randomly chosen members of the audience. Slam Format: All poets compete in round one and two. Top two poets with highest cumulative score will advance to the final round. Winning poet will be the strategy coach for the 2025 slam team.

HOW DO POETS QUALIFY TO TRYOUT FOR THE SLAM TEAM:

1. Poets have residency in the Upstate of South Carolina. Upstate defined.

2. Poets must earn at least ten points between July and December. Ten poets with the most points (over 10) can participate in the Grand Slam. 

The following activities earn poets points:

  1. Hosting a Wits End Poetry event or slam
  2. Working a Wits End Poetry event or slam such as DJ'ing, Bout Managing, Front of House.
  3. Participating in a Wits End Poetry workshop.
  4. Compete in a WEP Poetry Slam
    Participate in Slam - 1 Point
    Third Place ins Slam - 2 Points
    Second Place in Slam - 3 Points
    Win Slam - 4 Points
3. Poets may not try out for other slam teams during the same season. Poets that participate in qualifying rounds for other slam teams will be disqualified from the Say What Slam Team. (The season runs July to June).

4. Poets who make the team will be required to sign a contract that lays out practices, non-disparagement agreement, and expectations. Poets who break or violate their contracts will no longer be considered in good standing (benched from slams) with Wits End Poetry for that year January to December.
